You may be looking at an expensive HVAC repair bill wondering if it is worth it or if you should just have a new system installed. You wouldn’t be the first to stop to consider your options. However, because you can’t decide, you may just go ahead with the repairs. However, whenever you do that you may be prolonging the inevitable; which is, buying a new HVAC system. If your system is still working but you're experiencing some type of problem, there is always the possibility that all you need are repairs. However, when these repairs are adding up, it might be a better option to replace it.

Evaluating Your System
There are some things that you’ll need to consider when you are trying to figure out if you should replace or repair your system.

  1. Age of the System - Most cooling units will last from 12 to 15 years. A furnace will often last for 14 to 20 years if receiving regular maintenance. When you have a system that is close to its life expectancy then you might start to consider the advantages of investing in a new system.
  2. Frequency of Repairs – If you are receiving a lot of repairs this is when you should start to consider replacing the unit, especially if it is an older unit. The repairs may be the result of a system that is simply at the end of its lifespan. Any money you save on repairs can go toward your new system.
  3. The efficiency of the System – The higher the SEER the more efficient your system will be. This is what measures your cooling efficiency. Today's systems tend to be 50% more efficient than the systems made 10-years ago. If you have inconsistent temperatures then you might want to consider a new energy-efficient system.
  4. Loud Sounds – Loud noises are a sign that there is a problem with your system. It often indicates that the system is working too hard to meet the demands for your cooling and heating needs. It might be a problem with the compressor or fans. We can diagnose the problem and let you know right away.
  5. Humidity – Faulty equipment can be the cause of your air being dry during the winter months and it is too humid during the summer months. Too much humidity should be of concern to you and discussed with us.
